Bluff Hill Venison

Mitch occasionally resents his position as the son of a butcher man.
It was thought that there were probably just a few deer on Bluff Hill, now thanks to DOC paying a professional hunter to track them down and tell them off, there's less than a few.
Bluff Hill is lucky to have largely escaped the ravages of big mammals like goats, pigs and deer, this is why the bush is so lush and full of diversity. It's understandable then that over the last year we have become increasingly concerned at deer sightings on the hill. Bluff Hill is very hard to hunt safely because of the myriad of bike tracks, walking tracks, pest control lines, roads, oh yes and houses, so in the interests of public safety it is awesome that a trustworthy hunter managed to nail them. However deer may be an ongoing problem since fence-cutting and poaching antics have become popular on nearby farms. Omaui Reserve about 5km away also harbours a population of deer, not shy of migration. A deer trap might be necessary in the future. Til then the volunteers of Bluff Hill Motupohue Environment Trust are enjoying medallions of backsteak, stews, steaks, casseroles etc thanks heaps to Stu and Mitch for their man skills.
