The last few weeks have seen a frenzy of activity as we prepare for the pulse of cholecalciferol poison that will do the initial knockdown of our rat population. The photo is of volunteers filling 400 pottles of 'pre-feed' a non-toxic feed for the rats to get them keen on eating out of pottles before we put the cholecalciferol out in 2 weeks. We have also been focusing on possum control, -so they don't interfere too much with the rat poison and on getting the pest control tracks all sorted in our new control area, -approximately another 40 hectares of superb bush. As well as that sweaty furry work there's been plenty of paperwork including a mass of public awareness stuff going on. One of our main concerns is for the safety of people's dogs, as many people let them race around off the lead. We're hoping that people won't ignore the multiple signage. The students from St Teresa's have made us some fabulous posters to warn people of the dangers of poison to dogs, they will also be going up at the walking track entrances and at random places in the bush. I'll take some photos of our favourites and post them here soon. Til then, don't eat the green stuff, -or the blue stuff.
