This is our first ever blog, we felt the need to spread the love and propaganda of Bluff Hill Motupohue Environment Trust. We'll try and post weekly to keep you informed of happenings on The Hill. For more indepth info about the project have a look at our website http://www.bluffenvirotrust.org/
At the start of every month we re-bait all of our 90 mustelid traps. For some this is a time of revulsion and trepidation, for me it's an excuse to get my multi-coloured gumboots on and waltz around Bluff Hill singing Rod Stewart ballads. I've been re-baiting the traps for a year and a half now, so I like to think I've got it sorted; paint scraper to remove maggots and hedgehog prickles from traps, BBQ tongs for removing intact critters, breadbag for trophies and small thing of hand sanitiser for its psychological properties. I only got one rat today but it received a joyful chorus of "Wake up Maggoty I think I've got something to say to you..." I believe that brings the total of rats killed as 'by-catch' in the mustelid traps to 253, bring it on Ratties.
