Tui in the CBD

For a good week now over the drone of the main road, the hum of the aluminium smelter and the antarctic buzz of the coolstores I've been hearing a noise like a tui would make. 'Surely not' -I thought to myself, the only wildlife I've ever seen down here in the 'central business district' of Bluff is us and the seagulls. The only habitat is a blessed line of cabbage trees in front of the coolstores. But alas, it's true, it's not wishful thinking, we even saw the Tui responsible swooping across the main street. 'Go and live in the bush, it's safe up there' I yelled (nicely) at it, I don't know if he/she is just visiting or setting up home or what. We'll take it as a compliment though.
