What we did in the weekend.

Bring out the banjos, BHMET's in town...

We spent the weekend before last in lovely Te Anau, doing lots of things.

The main reason for this auspicious visit was to spend some time with Viv Shaw of the Pomona Island Charitable Trust, Viv took us through a series of questions about our group in order to help us sort out the Trust's goals and work towards 'future proofing' ourselves. It may sound a bit fancy pants, but it was choice to be away together and have someone else doing the thinking and planning and us just, well, contribute. We had a great time together talking and eating and writing and drawing, -although there was no communal singing. We visited DoC's rat control programme in the Eglinton Valley (above), very inspirational, thanks heaps to Gerard Hill for showing us around such a beautiful place and sharing his rat control knowledge with us.

Viv took us out to Pomona Island (in the middle of Lake Manapouri) where we checked and rebaited their mouse, rat and stoat traps. What an awesome little place, it was fabulous to see the vegetation recovering after a few years of being pest free. We didn't see many birds though, that was likely because they knew there was a fairly big storm coming, -it made for a great boat ride back though!

We'll keep you posted on those goals.
