Sometimes Norm (pretending to punch stoat in top photo) brings fabulous pikelets to our fortnightly Environment Trust meetings but this time he brought along a freshly trapped male stoat. This was interesting because we haven't had many stoats appearing in the traps recently, weasels seem to be flavour of the year. This stoat came from M50, which is round the back of Bluff Hill, near Lookout Pt. Most of the other stoats caught recently-ish have been at the 300 metre wide isthmus at Ocean Beach, where we foil their plans as they try to enter Bluff from 'the mainland'. Stoaty was very long, longer than a 30cm ruler (we can't possibly measure any further) and so heavy on the kitchen scales that I've forgotten exactly, maybe 400 grams? Quite a predator, nice to have gotten rid of him.
Anyway next meeting Norm brought pikelets as big as CD's and as high as cowpats.
